Subject: [progmuslim-2] New Subway Ads

Salaam Everyone,

I wanted to announce an effort put forth by several members of the Muslim community. By now you may already have seen or heard about the subway ads that were released by AFDI which included an image of the Twin Towers juxtaposed against an out-of-context Quranic verse.

To counter these ads, a new set of advertisements will be released on Metro North in February (click here to see the ad) along with a Twitter campaign to raise awareness.

There are several ways you can support:

  • If you’re on Twitter, use the hashtag #StopTheHate between the months of February 18 and March 17.
  • RSVP for the Facebook event and invite your Facebook friends to join to spread more awareness.
  • They would like to bring the ads to the subways (they are currently on the Metro North lines which run largely outside the city), but they need to raise money in order to do so. If you or someone you know would like to help make this happen, fill out this pledge with the amount of money you would like to donate. To run a full campaign they need $5000 but of course they are asking for less money from donors.

Cheers!
